Transitions & Partnerships

About Transitions
Transitions programming can help support adult learners beyond learning the English language or studying for a high school diploma or equivalent. Economic changes have made it apparent that adult education must assist learners in transitioning to further postsecondary education and training in order to gain skills, knowledge, and credentials that lead to better employment opportunities, higher earnings, and economic stability.
Integration with Partners
Workforce Development
Adult education is considered workforce development because it provides individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the workforce and contribute to economic growth. It helps build a well-trained workforce by offering programs in areas like literacy, English language acquisition, and vocational skills. In Minnesota, these programs work closely with the CareerForce Centers across the state.
Postsecondary Partnerships
Adult education plays a crucial role in postsecondary success by preparing students for the academic rigor of college. The partnership with postsecondary addresses the unique challenges faced by adult learners, including time commitments, financial burdens, and the need for flexible learning options. Adult education programs are co-located on the majority of Minnesota State community and technical colleges campuses and are co-located at several tribal colleges.
Adult Career Pathways
Adult Career Pathways is one model used to transition learners. A career pathway is an integrated collection of services intended to develop students’ core academic, technical, and employability skills; provide them with continuous education and training; and place them in high-demand, high-opportunity jobs. Career Pathways are defined in more detail in WIOA regulations. See the the brief below to read more.
