Regional Transitions Aid

Regional Transitions Aid is a small amount of federal Adult Education funding that is set aside to help Adult Education programs build capacity for sustainable and effective transitions for adult learners. This includes transitions to employment, training, and postsecondary education. Programming in this area often involves working with CareerForce centers, employers, and local community or tribal colleges. Collaboration between adult education consortia in the region and other regional partners is essential to this work.

The state is divided into ten transitions regions that each cover a geographic area of the state, with the exception of the Department of Corrections (DOC) that has locations across the state. The map below shows each geographic Transitions Region in a different color. Currently, each region receives up to $50,000 annually to build capacity in transitions programming.

Adult Education managers of each region are asked to designate a single point of contact to facilitate the development of the annual regional transitions plan and, possibly, implement some of the transition activities. These individuals are referred to as Regional Transitions Coordinators (RTCs). A list of RTCs is linked at the bottom of this page.

Regional Transitions Plans

A Regional Transitions Plan is developed by each region every year in the spring for approval by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Priority areas are identified for the state and each region determines which areas and specific activities are of importance to them. Many transitions activities focus on integrated education and training (IET); workplace literacy; bridge programming; outreach to employers; collaborating with youth, adult, and dislocated worker services; developing training curriculum; and/or offering online training within a region.

Contact your Regional Transition Coordinator (RTC) (linked below) if you would like to learn more about what transitions projects are currently funded in your region.
