Integrated Education & Training (IET)
What is IET?
The federal 2014 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) provides a definition for a new Adult Education service, Integrated Education and Training (IET):
…a service approach that provides adult education and literacy activities concurrently and contextually with workforce preparation activities and workforce training for a specific occupation or occupational cluster for the purpose of educational and career advancement. (Section 203 of WIOA)
IET programs must integrate the delivery of the three required activities: adult education and literacy activities, workforce preparation activities, and workforce training activities for a specific occupation or occupational cluster. An IET program must be part of a career pathway that leads to educational and career advancement and aligned with the state’s Adult Education Content Standards.

Minnesota IET Approval Process Overview
Minnesota Adult education providers must have their IET approved by the Minnesota Department of Education before the class is marked as IET in SiD.
- Submit the IET Approval Form and Single Set of Learning Objectives (SSLOs) Form to ATLAS for review.
- Make any changes recommended by ATLAS.
- Submit the documents to MDE for review. Allow up to two months for the IET to be reviewed.
- MDE will respond with approval or recommended changes.
